Introduction:
Aloe capensis, also known as Cape Aloe, is a medicinal plant that grows mainly in South Africa. The species of this plant belongs to the aloe family. Habit and Habitat:
Cape Aloe grows in hot, dry areas with little water as it is a drought- resistant plant. The plant has a single stem shrub and can reach up to a height of 2 to 3 meters. It is often found in the areas of rocky hillsides and open plains in the regions of Eastern and Western Cape of South Africa. This plant prefers well- drained soils, such as sandy or rocky soils. The leaves of the plant are thick and fleshy that stores water so that it can survive in tough climates.
Morphology and Anatomy:
Leaves: The leaves of the plant are thick, spiky, green colored that has gel stored in it and has bitter yellow juice known as aloe latex which is used for healing purpose.
Stem: This plant has a single, upright woody stem which can grow up to a height of 2-3 meters.
Flowers: The plant produces tall flower stalks especially in cold climates. The stalks are covered in bright orange to red tubular flowers which grow above the leaves.
Roots: The roots of plants are shallow and fibrous. It grows near the soil surface which helps plants to quickly absorb water after rain.
Medicinal use:
Aloe capensis has many medicinal benefits and it is also used in many skin care products. The gel stored in leaves of plants is used to cure skin burns and wounds. It is also used as lotions, creams or gels for healing dry and irritated skin. The dry yellow sap is used as a natural laxative which helps to relieve constipation. It also helps to reduce inflammation when applied externally. Small amounts of this plant extract help to improve digestion.
Causes:
Aloe capensis is a powerful plant with highly valued medicinal properties, but it also has many side effects. It can cause symptoms like diarrhea, stomach cramps and even kidney damage. The medicine should be taken in small doses and not for long periods as it may cause harm to the body.
