Sambucus nigra is a species of elder native to most of Europe. Commonly known as Elder, Elderberry, Black Elder, or European Elder, it thrives in a variety of conditions, including both wet and dry soils, and prefers sunny locations.
Description
Sambucus nigra is a fast-growing, deciduous shrub that can reach up to 6 meters (19 feet) in height and spread. It flourishes in different soil types — from sandy to clay — and tolerates acidic, neutral, and alkaline conditions. It can grow in semi-shaded areas but prefers full sunlight.
